5 Daily and 5 Weekly Questions for a Disciple of Jesus

December 4, 2014

This post was originally posted on ConvergeChurch.ca and has been archived here.

(As a part of our ongoing desire to communicate well, we will be adding a blog post at least every other week starting in 2015. I thought it’d be good to get started early and post something I’ve found helpful in my own personal walk with Christ.)

phone_calendarHere are 5 questions any disciple of Jesus can ask themselves as they start their day. Personally, I make it really easy and add these types of things into my reminders on my iPhone (or on my calendar) and set an alert. There’s also 5 questions to ask at more of a weekly rhythm.

The goal with this is not to push meaningless religiosity on you, but rather to sincerely invite you to test your heart and step up to the challenge of pursuing faith-in-action as you mature as a follower of Jesus.

(FYI: These were given to me from our friends at Soma. I’ve adapted it a bit and passed it on to you. It is my prayer that it serves you well.)

Daily Questions:

  1. How does Jesus want me to live today motivated by the amazing truth of who he is and what he’s done for me? (Reflect on the 4 Gospel Questions – Who is God? What has he done? Who am I in light of that? How do I live in light of that?)
  2. How does Jesus want me to live out my identity today as his missionary? …as his servant? …as a member of his family?
  3. How does Jesus want me to live in a rhythm of dependence today upon the Holy Spirit that he has given to be my helper, helping me bear his fruit throughout the day?
  4. How does Jesus want me to be a faithful steward today of all the good gifts, relationships, opportunities, and resources he has blessed me with?
  5. How does Jesus want me to pursue purity and holiness today, as I seek his help to flee temptation and go to him with a humble and repentant heart when I fail?

Weekly Questions:

  1. How can I spend my time this week for Jesus’ purposes? (At work, at home, in my neighborhood…)
  2. How can I steward my money and resources this week for Jesus’ purposes? (Who should I bless? How? How often?)
  3. How can I work, rest, recreate, eat, celebrate, learn, worship, and pray this week for Jesus’ purposes?
  4. Who does Jesus want me to love, serve, and demonstrate the gospel to this week?
  5. Who does Jesus want me to proclaim the gospel to this week? How? What?

Reflection:

Backward: Have I been obedient to these realities this past week?

Forward: How can I grow in obedience to these realities in the coming week?
