Taking shape…

Things are beginning to take shape for Converge Church and it is exciting. We are beginning to look for a facility for Sunday gatherings, soon we’ll be registered as a charity (very important for Churches in Canada) and it looks like we will be multiplying to three Gospel Communities by early February. We are still a long way off from a lot of things, but it is increasingly evident that God is preparing a way for us.

I’ve been meeting regularly on Monday mornings with some men for prayer and discipleship. During those prayer times I have been encouraged by the heart of these men for the people of Campbell River, their vision for the Church and their own commitment to the mission. As a part of discipleship, we often pray that we would be better husbands to our wives and great Daddy’s to our children.

Keely asked me on Sunday after we got around to relaxing at home, “Why do you like to preach?” I laughed for 2 reasons, first because I thought that might have been her way of telling me it was a horrible sermon, and secondly because I had actually forgotten for a moment that not everyone would enjoy getting up in front of a bunch of people and making a fool of himself. We had a good laugh, but the fact is, being called to preach is both a joy and a huge responsibility. There comes with it a sense of fulfilment and delight in the calling to herald the Gospel, as well as a deep responsibility in bearing this task well.

And in a very real sense, preaching is every Christian’s joy. At Converge Church, we want to call every disciple of Jesus forward to live their lives in such a way that demands a Gospel explanation.

Prayer Points:

  • Praise that we have received all of our startup costs!
  • Prayer that more people would partner with us financially for 3 years.
  • Prayer that we would be wise as we begin to branch out more into the community of Campbell River.
  • Prayer that we would continue to see God’s hand at work in and around us as we move forward in faith.

The main idea from my last sermon is that the response to the Gospel is going about the mission of God not because we HAVE to but because we GET to. Ephesians 2:8 (ESV) –  “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
