Family Fun Day | December 19, 2009

December 21, 2009

December 19, 2009 was a great Family Fun Day for Keely, Levi, Dexter, Talitha & myself (Mark).

We took in the Chemainus Theatre performance that they do for kids. It was very well done for the kids.

It was a beautiful day in Chemainus, so we went for a walk. The sidewalks are lined with yellow footprints, so the kids made sure that they stepped on almost every one of them. Too bad for the other people that were trying to use the sidewalks too. We realized partway down Island that we had forgotten the good camera, but I was thankful for my iPhone.

It was lunchtime so we found a little hole in the wall that had a sign out front saying “Kids welcome!” So we went in! Apparently its a “family” restaurant by day & a sports bar by night. Cool.

Then we headed a little further south to Duncan to visit Keely’s Mom’s Dad, Grandpa Hugh. My son Dexter Hugh Anthony shares his name. Christmas is always a bit of a hard time for family because we all still miss Monica, so it was good to visit Grandpa.

As we were leaving, Guy & Sue arrived back from Calen’s soccer game in Victoria, so we stayed and had a great visit with them as well!

For an extra treat, it was getting dark as we were heading back up to Campbell River & we drove through the downtown part of Ladysmith…lots of Christmas lights. This photo doesn’t do it justice.

Then in Woodgrove Centre in Nanaimo, we walked through Toys r Us listening to the kids and seeing what perked their interest. I was actually quite amazed at how well our kids did. They did not complain about not getting anything in the stores. They were super well behaved. So while we were waiting for Mommy a bit later, we stopped for a Java @ Blenz Coffee there in the mall.

We managed to be home before 9:30pm, but the kids were done.

And by no stretch of the imagination, so were Keely and I. A full day, but a fun day.

I love having the opportunity to take the family a little bit out of town for a day just to enjoy our time together. It was great.
